Cookie Policy
Last updated: 4 June 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Poketrax ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Poketrax website and application at poketrax.co.uk (the "Service"). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
We use cookies in accordance with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR. This means we only set non-essential cookies (such as analytics) after you have given consent.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. "Similar technologies" include local storage, session storage, and pixels. They let a site remember your actions and preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is used. Throughout this policy "cookies" covers all of these technologies.
2. The categories we use
2.1 Strictly necessary (always on)
These are required for the Service to function and cannot be switched off. Under PECR they are exempt from consent because the Service cannot be provided without them. They include:
| Purpose | Set by | Type | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keeping you signed in / session authentication | Clerk | Cookie | Session / until sign-out |
| Security, CSRF protection, and load handling | Poketrax / Clerk | Cookie | Session |
| Fraud prevention on payment pages | Stripe (Stripe.js) | Cookie | Up to 1 year |
| Remembering your display preferences (theme, density, accent, currency) | Poketrax | Local storage | Until you clear it |
We treat Stripe's fraud-prevention cookies as strictly necessary because they protect both you and us against fraudulent transactions during checkout; Stripe sets these only on pages where payment is involved.
2.2 Analytics (consent required)
These help us understand how the Service is used so we can improve it — for example which features are used, how users move through sign-up and checkout, and where errors occur. They are only set if you accept analytics cookies, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
| Purpose | Set by | Type | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product analytics — page views, feature usage, conversion funnel, error diagnostics | PostHog (EU cluster) | Cookie / local storage | Up to 12 months |
PostHog runs on its EU cluster and analytics traffic is routed through our own domain (/ingest) so it works reliably across browsers; this does not change its status as a non-essential cookie requiring consent. Until you consent, PostHog is not initialised and sets no cookies.
We do not use advertising, marketing, or third-party tracking cookies.
3. Your choices and how to control cookies
On first visit, you will see a cookie banner with two equally available options: Accept analytics or Reject. We do not pre-tick any boxes, and rejecting is as easy as accepting. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless because the Service cannot run without them.
To change your choice later, use the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer to accept or withdraw analytics consent at any time. Withdrawing consent stops further analytics collection.
Browser controls. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will break sign-in and other core features. Guidance for common browsers is available at the browser vendors' own help pages and at the ICO's website, ico.org.uk.
4. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by the third-party providers listed above (Clerk, Stripe, PostHog) acting as our processors or, in Stripe's case, in connection with payment services. Their use of cookies is also governed by their own privacy and cookie policies. We do not control cookies set by external sites you reach via outbound links (e.g. an eBay listing).
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes. We will post the updated version with a revised "Last updated" date, and where required we will ask for your consent again.
